pi phrases generally don't stack. In other words "X pi A B pi C D" is X (A B) (C D). But this means you can't make sentences which go X (A B (C D)). This results in the combination of two words (like tomo telo) being less versatile than a single word (like tomo) because it's easy to say X (A B (C)). This is an especially big problem in toki pona (and by extension toki wawa if we don't fix it) because we're meant to use combinations of words to replace what would be a single word in other languages.
